The roll out of a new $5.5 million signalling system at Homebush is set to improve CityRail services on the Northern Line between Rhodes, Epping and Thornleigh.

The commissioning of the Advanced Train Running Information Control System (ATRICS) is part of our $36 million four-year plan to enhance signalling to further improve the reliability and safety of our services for commuters.

The $5.5 million Homebush ATRICS has transformed the Strathfield signal box into a mini version of Railcorp’s high-tech Rail Management Centre - the CityRail equivalent of an air traffic control centre.

The new computerised screens will allow controllers to see train movements and locations in real time between Rhodes, Epping and Thornleigh.

Besides bringing major improvements to service reliablity, safety and passenger information in this area, the new ATRICS system will also help deliver improved reliability to other parts of the network.

Northern Line passengers, including those using the new Rhodes Station, can also expect more useful station announcements, with messages being passed down the line more quickly and effectively.

Another $11 million ATRICS - due for completion in 2007/08 - will be added at Sydenham to cover the area bounded by East Hills, Cabramatta and Ingleburn stations.
