Town Hall Station is one of our busiest stations during peak periods and reliable escalators are essential for efficiently moving large numbers of commuters to and from the platforms.

Customers may notice some changes at Town Hall Station from next week while CityRail staff carry out planned maintenance work on one of the escalators.

What's involved?
For six weeks starting Monday 5 May, escalator 3, at the southern end of platforms 5 and 6 will undergo a major overhaul, requiring it to be shut down for long periods. The work is scheduled to be completed by Friday 13 June.

Who does it affect?
The work will affect customers travelling on Eastern Suburbs & Illawarra Line services to Town Hall and Bondi Junction, and Inner West & South Line services via the City Circle and Central Station. The remaining three escalators as well as the lifts on platforms 5 and 6 will still operate as normal.

CityRail's regional business manager for CBD Stations, Michael Armstrong said: "We apologise for any inconvenience to our customers. Extra staff will be on hand in the morning and afternoon peak hours on the platform and concourse levels to assist customers in accessing platforms 5 and 6."

Please note the following access arrangements during the maintenance period:

AM weekday peak (7.00am to 9.30am)

• All operating escalators on platforms 5 and 6 operate upwards only towards the concourse and ticket barriers
• Passengers alighting from the rear of trains should follow the direction signs to the other three escalators on platforms 5 and 6, or alternatively use the stairs or lift
• There are no escalators operating from the concourse to platforms 5 and 6. Customers travelling from the concourse to platforms 5 and 6 should use the stairs or the lift.

Post peak (10.30am onwards) and all day on weekends

• Escalators will operate to and from platforms 5 and 6
• Passengers should follow the direction signs to the operating escalators or alternatively use the stairs or lift
