Our stations

CityRail is aware of customers’ requirements for a clean and safe environment and aims to:

  • clean all attended stations daily
  • conduct cleaning inspections at unattended stations on a regular basis
  • maintain bright lighting
  • fix equipment failures promptly and when lifts or escalators are expected to be out of service for a considerable time, provide advice on expected restoration time and alternative arrangements. Our target is to have 98 per cent of lifts and escalators in working order when train services are operating
  • ensure toilets at stations are clean and unlocked wherever possible. If toilets are closed for security reasons, staff will unlock them on request.

During 2006/07 station upgrading will begin at Belmore, Bowral, Carlton, Eastwood, Seven Hills, Turramurra and Werrington stations.

  • Auburn
  • Bulli
  • Helensburgh
  • Lakemba
  • Meadowbank
  • Mortdale
  • North Wollongong
  • Penshurst

Work will continue on the Town Hall Station upgrade and begin at Woonona.

Station upgrades make the rail system accessible for people with disabilities and provide a range of benefits for all passengers. Improvements may include lifts, ramps, overhead footbridges, wider stairs, street level concourses, family accessible toilets, tactile tiles, hearing loops, improved lighting and closed circuit television (CCTV). 99 per cent of operational CityRail platforms have a portable boarding ramp available on request to assist passengers with disabilities to board and alight from trains safely. The accessible features of our stations are listed in the Accessing CityRail brochure, which is available on our website and at staffed stations.

CityRail is progressively introducing electronic signange and digitised voice announcements at its stations. In 2005-2006, RailCorp implemented the Long Line Public Address (LLPA) project throughout the network's outer stations. All CityRail stations now have LLPA to enable staff in either the RMC or at local CCTV monitoring locations to advise customers of network or safety issues. The outer regions are also being equipped with the Long Line Digitised Voice Announcement (LLDVA) systems.
